Second Story is staffed by a dedicated and hardworking board. And, as we’ve said, we’re friends who love and believe in the power of creative writing.


MAURICE BROADDUS’ dark fiction has been published in numerous magazines, anthologies, and web sites, and he’s the author of the urban fantasy series, The Knights of Breton Court. He has been a teaching artist for over five years, teaching creative writing to elementary, middle, and high school students, as well as adults. Visit his site.

COREY MICHAEL DALTON is a medical writer by day, a creative writer by night. He has been published in The Saturday Evening Post, Axolotl, Jack and Jill, Punchnel’s, and elsewhere. He has worked as an editor at Wiley Publishing, a newspaper reporter, a magazine editor, and a blogger (but not, alas, a logger). He also once lived in the front window of the Kurt Vonnegut Memorial Library for an entire week. Really.

URSULA DAVID is an award-winning designer, builder, and developer and the owner of Ursula David Homes.

STEVE FOX is a professor in the English Department at IUPUI, where he directs the Writing Program. He also directs the Hoosier Writing Project, a site for professional development for teachers of writing at all levels and in all subject areas. He has lived in the Irvington neighborhood on Indianapolis’s east side for 20 years.

CARRIE GAFFNEY holds an undergraduate degree in English Education and an MFA in creative writing. As a writer, she regularly contributes to Kentucky Monthly and Punchnel’s. She is also active in the Hoosier Writing Project.

MATT GONZALES is an experienced journalist and associate creative director at Well Done Marketing. Before becoming a writer, he worked as a teacher of English as a second language in Busan and Seoul, South Korea.

KEN HONEYWELL has been a professional writer for more than 30 years and is president of Second Story. He’s also president and creative director at Well Done Marketing and is editor of the literary webzine Punchnel’sKen was the author of Bobby Plump: Last of the Small Town Heroesand is one of the founders of Second Story.

MAURA MALLOY is a writer. She blogs about her path to simple living on her website, A Serene Space (and as a result, will be an upcoming speaker at TedXIndianapolis). She has several film projects in various stages of development including: the web series “Dream Boat” which recently wrapped production of its pilot episode, and the features An Illuminated Life and Our Revels, which are currently in development. An Illuminated Life, a biopic about J.P Morgan’s right-hand woman who passed as white during the turn of the century, and Our Revels, a modern day platonic love story, will both with star Tessa Thompson. Maura holds a Bachelor degree from the University of Notre Dame and a Masters of Fine Arts from the University of Virginia.

KEVIN MCKELVEY is a professor of English at the University of Indianapolis. An accomplished poet, Kevin earned his MFA at Southern Illinois University.

JAMEY PEAVLER is an educator with nineteen years of experience in public education. She works for the MA Rooney Foundation as an instructional coach and curriculum developer for the Read by 3 Orton-Gillingham Pilot Schools. Jamey served as a Literacy Coach for the Indianapolis Public School District and pre-school teacher for Meridian Hills Cooperative Nursery School. Jamey currently serves on the board of the Indiana Branch of the International Dyslexia Association.

LOU PERRY’s a partner at Faegre Baker Daniels, LLP with a special focus on sports and entertainment law. He’s represented a number of artists in various media, including books, music, and television. When he’s not representing writers or working with writers, he’s a writer himself. His work sometimes appears on Punchnel’s and more often appears on his computer screen in the form of an in-progress novel.
